Aesculus Pavia (Red Buckeye)

Size: 12-20'x 12-20'

Light:Full Sun or Light Shade

Soil: drained in summer-don't overwater, but brief flooding in winter & spring OK. Mine is on enriched sand with clay subsoil, but on a draining hill.

Age in picture: 4 yrs

Resource: Mine was a gift but I've seen it listed in Woodlanders

Comments: A native plant that hummingbirds love. It blooms in April here at same time as Louisiana Iris and the 1st rose blush. I've seen large old specimans of this at Mynell Gardens, but then I've seen it as understory
low at Kirolli park in West Monroe. Do not be alarmed when leaves drop in late summer heat, that is natural. By then buds have already set.
