Some Baha'i Principles

Dear Investigating Soul

It's mid Dec.'07 and a lot is happening in my life right now.I was going to wait until I'd finnished each section before I took them off "under constuction".I found I have so much I want to share about the Baha'i Principles that it could take a while to do so. Hence my sharing the little I have so far. Come back, there will be more.
Thanks for your patience,Ginger

Today I read something that I felt compeled to share because it fit here so well. Like the author Abdu'l-baha I've also been told when I tell friends about the Baha'i Principles "What's so new about that. Most caring people already believe these things? Here is the best answer I ever read or heard. I'd like to add that Baha'u'llah brought these teaching back in the mid 1800's and remember what the world was like then, esp. the middle east. Click on the Lotus of world religions to read Abdu'l-baha's answer.

The artwork or "buttons" such as "We R one family' are from the catalog of " Special Ideas'. This is a really great online resource for all kinds of interesting spiritually based items. While it is a major Baha'i resource you can get many of thier items with or without the word 'Baha'i'. I'd like to thank them for the use of thier artwork. Special Ideas-Click Here

The Oneness of Humanity

Many years ago I sat on a public beach watching my  twins playing with a group of children of all races, each speaking different laguages. That day all these stangers had chosen to spend a vacation day on a California beach. As I watched my girls and my son futher down the beach I noticed people all over this crowed beach. People of all sizes, all races, all ages, and many languages playing in the ocean together. All of a sudden I felt connected to all of them, united as if we were one being, I felt this joyous energy flowing through, connecting and then as a wave sending out into the whole world joining all of us .This was years before I heard about the Baha'i Faith  and it's focus on unity. At that moment, on the beach, I "knew" that all of humanity is united and interconnected whether we recognize it or not.

" We desire but the good of the world and the happiness of the nations; yet they deem Us a stirrer up of strife and sedition worthy of bondage and banishment... That all nations should become one in faith and all men as brothers; that the bonds of affection and unity between the sons of man should be strengthened; that diversity of religion should cease, and diffences of race be annualled... what harm is there in this?... Yet so it shall be; these fruitless strifes, these ruiness wars shall pass away, and the 'Most Great Peace' shall come... yet do We see your kings and rulers lavishing their treasures more freely on means for the destruction of the human race than on that which would conduce to the happiness of mankind....These strifes and bloodshed and discord must cease, and all men be as one kindred and one family... Let not a man glory in this, that he loves his country, let him rather glory in this, that he loves his kind...."

                                                                                                               Baha'u'llah

" The world of existence is like unto an orchard and humanity is like unto the trees. All these trees are planted in the same orchard, reared through the heat of one sun, watered with one rain. We must be the cause of the adornment of this orchard. The world of humanity is like unto a rose garden and the various races, tongues and people are like unto contrasting flowers. The diversity of colors in a rose-garden adds to the charm and beauty of the scene as variety enhances unity. Why should we not look upon the human world with rose-colored vision"

                                                                                                                                                                                         Abdu'l-baha

My favorite new Law

In Baha'u'llahs most important work Kitab-i-Aqdas (The Book of Laws) no. 37 he forbids " backbiting and calumny".  Backbiting is gossip or talking bad about someone behind thier backs. Calumny is a false statement maliciously made to injure anothers reputation.

In Baha'u'llah's " The Hidden Words"  He states:

" O son of being! How couldst thou forget  thy own faults and busy thyself with the faults of others? Whoso doeth this is accursed of me." and again " O Son of Man! Breath not the sins of othesr so long as thou art thyself a sinner. Shouldst thou trangress this command, accursed wouldst thou be, and to this witness."

In " The book of My Covenant." he futher stated " Verily I say, the tongue is for mentioning what is good, defile it not with unseemly talk. God hath forgiven what is past. Henceforth everyone should uter that which is meet and seemly, and should refrain from slander, abuse, and whatever causeth sadness in men."

Harmony of Science & Relilgion

"Today, superstitous religious leaders and materialistic scientists battle for control of our schools and public policy, even as quantum physicist and spiritual philosophers hold seminars on the interface between the mystical and the material. But over one hundred years ago-before the Einstein revolution-the Founder of the Baha'i Faith had already proclaimed the Harmony of Science& Religion.

Here is what his son had to say about this timely issue in 1912 when he traveled from the Holy Land to speak in Paris and the United States. The technologies have advanced since then-along with the threat posed by continued conflict--but the underlying principles remain the same.....

'God made religion and science to be the measure, as it were, of our understanding. Take heed that you neglect not such a wonderful powe.Weigh all things in this balance.

To him who has the power of comprehension religion is like an open book, but how can it be possible for a man devoid of reason and intellectuality to understand the Divine Realities of God?

Put all your beliefs into harmony with science; there can be no opposition, for truth is one. When religion, shorn of its superstitions, traditions, and unitelligent dogmas, shows its conformity with science, then will there be a great unifying, cleansing, force in the world which will sweep before it all wars, disagreements, discords  and struggles- and then will mankind be united in the power of the Love of God.-Abdu'l-baha'
